Seattle City Light
Public utility uses XPD to enhance their procurement processes
Seattle City Light is among the top-10 largest public utilities in the U.S., which means their procurement staff is faced with a high-volume of complex RFPs and RFQs. The City partnered with Simplar to use the XPD process on a wide range of challenging projects.
Simplar implemented the XPD approach on 15 projects at City Light. Highlighted projects include organizational change management consultants for city-wide automated metering roll-out, engineering work to overhaul a hydroelectric power plant, the City’s first ever solar microgrid, and several enterprise-level software systems.
The City had three goals: 1) reduce time & waste in their RFP procedures; 2) improve relationships with External Vendors; and 3) create value so that procurement was seen as a “fixer” and not a “roadblock”.
50% reduction in evaluator time (per proposal review)
75% reduction in Interview time (per vendor)
50% reduction in total cycle time (shaved 3-6mo off their typical durations)
SIMPLAR’S XPD APPROACH ACHIEVED $20-25k IN TIME SAVNGS FOR EACH RFP (AS DOCUMENTED BY INTERNAL AUDITS)
